Not so great for the advanced learner. I paid for 20 weeks at the Tandem school in Madrid, Spain (I highly recommend visiting/studying in Madrid) and I came in with an upper intermediate/lower advanced level of Spanish. I feel that someone at the school should have warned me that this school is more set up for beginner/early intermediate learners if you want to stay for such an extended period of time. I think the school would have been fine for my level if I had only studied there for a month or so, but eventually, they ran out of things for me to do and kept putting me in lower levels where I repeated the same lessons over and over. And because of their refund policy, I couldn't stop the course early and get any of my money back.
Moral of the story: Tandem's a decent school with enjoyable teachers that I would recommend if you were staying for about a month. If you plan to study at a language school longer than a month, I would suggest that you only pay for a month or so to make sure that you like it because many of the school won't refund any of you money if you leave early.
Also... I didn't stay with a host family through the school. I already knew people in Madrid, so I can't attest to Tandem's accommodations. |
